For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; — Psalm 103:11

How high is the sky? The five layers of the atmosphere surrounding Earth reach around 10,000 km (6,213 mi) above sea level. But outer space is generally defined as 100 km (62 mi) above sea level and there is total blackness at 160 km (99.4 mi). Our sky is just a fraction of the heavens.

Interestingly, the farthest a man-made object has penetrated the heavens is the Voyager 1, launched in 1977 by the U.S. It has logged more than 20,000,000,000 km (12,427,423,845 mi) and entered interstellar space beyond our solar system a few years ago. In spite of the depth our telescopes can peer into the vastness of the beyond, it is minuscule in comparison to what’s still out there.

The Bible says the greatness of God’s steadfast love for those who fear Him is as immeasurable as the heights of the heavens above the earth (Fear, by the way,  doesn’t mean trembling in fright, but to reverence and honor Him). God’s love is like bedrock that gives a strong foundation regardless of the intensity of any earthquake life throws at us. His love is fully capable and fully supplied to meet our every need. So trust in Him when fear cloaks you, and when temptation takes you down. His love is as limitless as the depths of the heavens.
