On November 15, I took a quick look at my email before going downstairs for lunch. To my surprise, a new email in bold letters sat in my In Box from American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW). I took a deep breath before clicking. I had almost forgotten my entry in the ACFW’s First Impressions contest a month earlier. In the message, the contest category coordinator sent a congratulatory message, saying my entry made it into the finals for contemporary fiction. ACFW will announce winners in each of nine categories on December 15.
The contest is for unpublished authors who submit the first five pages of a manuscript that doesn’t have to be finished. I will tell you more about the story after the contest ends.
I thank God, who knows how to delight and encourage us. We may feel insignificant in the God’s grand scheme, but He still asks the same question He did to Moses when the prince-turned-shepherd stood in front of the burning bush. “What’s that in your hand?” For me, it’s a pen or a keyboard. I may not lead a nation into a promise land like Moses did, but writing can liberate hearts. I just need to obey God’s gifting for my life and entrust the results to Him. My prayer is that God will use someday the finished manuscript to accomplish His purposes for His glory.
Is God prompting you to do something? Let me know in the comments.
