Besides the Hardy Boys and the Sugar Creek Gang series, Robinson Crusoe, by Daniel DeFoe, was my favorite book growing up. It’s not the book my parents read to me. Here are other books I’ve loved:

Of course, the all time best selling book is the Holy Bible. The story of an abandoned Creator who wouldn’t go away. Its build up, arrival, and finishing work of Jesus Christ point the way back to God. Even for non-followers of Jesus, it’s still good to be familiar with the Bible—it’s shaped so much of Western Civilization and shows up in literature more often than we realize.
