Short stories are a fascinating form of fiction. They may be short, but that doesn’t mean easy to write. Still, they provide good training for writing a novel. I decided to focus on shorts this year. Here are five stories I’m excited about and plan to complete in 2025.
They are:
- Behold, All Things Are Become New—When his abusive father shows up uninvited on his wedding day, a groom must confront his past or risk dragging anger and hurt into his marriage.
- The Painter (A Tale)—When a painter’s masterpiece mutates into chaos, he faces a choice: destroy his creation or restore it with love.
- The Mirror—As a family struggles to come together after the father’s death, a young man must learn to set aside his self-centeredness.
- A Home For Rodney—Time is running out for a boy in the social services system who must either let go of his fears and find a loving family or continue shuffling from one household to another.
- Where The Tracks End—A boy living under his harsh grandfather’s rule dreams of where the train tracks might lead. But when a baby’s arrival changes everything, he learns that true freedom comes from staying and making the best of where he is.
