To you, O LORD, I call; my rock, be not deaf to me, lest, if you be silent to me, I become like those who go down to the pit. – Psalm 28:1
One of the things that fascinated me in old western movies were the jagged rock formations standing out of the desert sands, under the open sky, and the pervading silence with no one around for miles.
Throughout the Bible, the LORD is likened to a rock because of His strength and durability. David, the psalm writer, understood that from personal experience. But God is not deaf like a rock. Christianity offers people a personal connection with the holy, everlasting, and loving God.
David knew that, too, and could be bold enough to make his appeal to the Omnipotent. After all, faith in God would be no better than no faith if God gave us the cold shoulder, tuned out, or disconnected when we called upon Him.
Who do you turn to in your time of need? Turn to the rock that hears, speaks comfort, and acts on your behalf.
